Acoustic Fabrication Solutions: Chiller Tonality Reduction for Australian BESS Site

Location: Victoria, Australia

Client: Renewable Developer

Challenge

A 65kW chiller system caused tonal peaks at 160 Hz, exceeding VIC regulatory tonality limits by 6 dBA.

Solution

QuietGrid conducted ISO 3744 sound power testing and tonality diagnostics using FFT and 1/3 octave analysis. A galvanized steel acoustic noise kit was designed and installed, which included tuned baffle geometry and lined acoustic panels.

Result

  • Tonality peak reduced by 6.3 dBA
  • Overall sound power dropped from 85 dBA to 78.6 dBA
  • Site passed VIC tonality compliance without needing enclosure retrofit cPCS Tonality    Elimination at EU Utility-Scale Project

Tonality and harmonics diagnosis (fan BPF, compressor whine, IGBT hum)

Location: Germany

Client: Grid-Tied Storage EPC

Challenge

Audible tonal noise at ~2.2 kHz generated by inverter switching harmonics (IGBTs) was causing community complaints 100 meters away.

Solution

QuietGrid deployed transfer path analysis and vibration isolation mapping. The PCS was retrofitted with internal damping materials, and isolation mounts were tuned to shift mechanical resonance.

Result

  • Tonal peak at 2.2 kHz reduced by 10 dB
  • Field spectrogram confirmed no tonal audibility post-mitigation
  • EPC received formal sign-off from local environmental compliance agency

Data Center HVAC Noise Suppression

Location: Singapore

Client: Hyperscale Data Center Operator

Challenge

Rooftop chillers emitted high-speed fan noise, creating a tonal peak at ~800 Hz that interfered with neighboring buildings.

Solution

QuietGrid conducted a full ISO 9614 noise audit. Custom silencers and a cross-louver acoustic deflector were engineered to redirect and absorb tonal components.

Result

  • Achieved 9.5 dBA reduction at 800 Hz
  • Maintained required airflow and chiller efficiency
  • No complaints post-installation; documented compliance with local sound codes

Farfield Environmental Noise Assessment for Solar + BESS Site

Location: Arizona, USA

Client: Developer preparing for environmental impact study (EIS)

Challenge

Pre-construction modeling required proof that inverter, PCS, and cooling fans would not violate local farfield limits (45 dBA at property line).

Solution

QuietGrid deployed mobile sound stations and baseline noise monitors, then modeled acoustic emissions using ISO 9613 propagation.

Result

  • Demonstrated predicted farfield noise < 42 dBA at site boundary
  • Avoided delays in environmental approvals
  • Delivered EIS acoustic compliance report used in permitting phase
